Program Guidelines and Structure
This schedule is a distinctively different approach to the traditional end of the school year. Through block scheduling, students will enroll in a series of elective courses designed to stretch their imaginations, provide exposure to new topics, and furnish opportunities for diving deeper into subject areas. It also provides students the opportunity to cross over in subjects, gain an appreciation for a new field, and expand their learning in a new way.
May Term will be in a block scheduling format for the last three weeks of the school year. Classes will meet in 90-minute blocks. Students will be able to choose up to four courses.
Courses are based on seniority. Juniors will have first choice, followed by sophomores, freshmen, eighth grade, seventh grade, and then sixth grade. Seniors wishing to participate will have a choice at the same time as juniors. The selection of courses will be announced by the Dean of Students in March of each academic year.
May Term classes will be on student transcripts and be listed as complete or incomplete.
*High school students must complete three May Term courses during their high school career, as they are a requirement of graduation. May Term will not be a factor in a student's GPA.
Middle school students will also participate in the May Term each year and grading will also be based on complete or incomplete.
May Term will not impact daily school beginning or ending times. School arrival and dismissal will be consistent with prior semesters.
Attendance will be a factor in whether a student earns a complete or incomplete. Students may only have two unexcused absences. More than two unexcused absences will result in the student earning an incomplete. Excused and unexcused absences will follow the current academic year student handbook.
